Counselling & Psychotherapy for Adults

I've been helping adults for 24 years; in the voluntary sector, NHS (as a Staff Counsellor and Adult Mental Health Therapist) and private practice for the last 19 years. I'm also highly qualified; I've achieved a Masters Degree in Counselling, I've studied a modern trauma Masterclass with Bessell van der Kolk (the body keeps the score) and I'm BACP Accredited (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy www.bacp.co.uk). I've also studied and achieved a postgraduate qualification in Relationship Psychotherapy, so I can help you as an individual, understand you in your relationship,
Throughout all this time, I've successfully helped thousands of clients that have sought help with these common reasons or symptoms;

regular fear or stress (anxiety), low mood/little or no motivation (depression), a reliance on a substance or activity such as; alcohol, food, exercise etc.
Self-harm, anger, relationship difficulties, work, low self-esteem/confidence and so on.

These day to day symptoms are usually the reasons that bring us to therapy, but there is usually a deeper root cause, stemming from past experiences, usually our childhood.

How will I help you?
It's important I understand what you'd like to achieve from your therapy so we can regularly review our work together, if you don't know, that's ok, it may become clearer as your therapy develops. We'll explore your reasons for coming to therapy, what it is you're experiencing, making links to your past experiences so we understand you on a deeper level, this ensures long term changes are made, investing in you. I draw upon my knowledge of different psychotherapy theories; Attachment Theory, Psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems & Neuroscience/Neurobiology, I invite you to ask me any questions about these theories and how they can help you.
I've studied the causes and affects of Trauma. ALL types of trauma are impactful on our adult lives(I talk about this in my Blog), and impact us all differently, no two similar experiences are the same so we can't compare. I have worked with many clients with either a diagnosis or symptoms of; Complex trauma, PTSD, DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), BDP (Borderline Personality Disorder). While I don't diagnose, I understand diagnosis and respect that you may like a name for what you're experiencing so I'll support you with achieving this, if this is important to you.

As your therapist, I will observe and listen with compassion, no criticisms or judgments - I will share any observations and knowledge, and may share worksheets or handouts and make suggestions for you to practice outside of your therapy if relevant.

Be assured, I will be alongside you every step of the way.
