Trauma Recovery

Trauma recovery has been developed over recent years to help people struggling with the long lasting affects of childhood trauma; physical, emotional, sexual abuse and neglect by parents/carers/other adults but there is unfortunately no quick fix, it can take time to work through and heal, but positive change can be made with the commitment and will to engage in weekly therapy.

Childhood trauma and trauma in general is pretty misunderstood by people, but it is more common than you think and is devastating. The affects of Trauma stretch far and wide into adulthood, affecting everything; relationships, sleeping, how you treat yourself, work, concentration, sense of self, self-esteem/confidence, and the list goes on...............

Trauma recovery is to recover and heal from how your early experiences have affected you in adulthood. It's inevitable you'll be in survival modes of Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn or Submit including Dissociation, all amazing automatic physical responses to traumatic experiences you cannot cope with.

There have been many therapies developed over recent times to overcome trauma in adulthood, but the best ways of helping survivors of childhood trauma are those that are always focussing on creating a foundation of safety and trust, not rushing ahead to 'fix', but taking time to create understanding of experiences and how they impact you day to day now, physically and emotionally, including your brain and nervous system. In my experience of helping survivors, your experiences as children create unconscious patterns that follow you through into adulthood, which you may be unaware of. My responsibility to you as your therapist, is to provide a safe space and relationship. This, along with the specialist knowledge I've gained, will help you uncover how you've been impacted as an adult, so you can make conscious healthy lifestyle choices, rather than 'unconscious no longer helpful' choices.
