Couples Counselling

A couple having fun on a bike ride

I'm really passionate about helping couples and I've had the privilege over 10 years of helping many couples from all walks of like, backgrounds, religions, faiths and sexuality. In more recent years, I wanted to gain more knowledge and understanding of couples dynamics because it's a specialism, and very different to individual therapy. So, in 2024 I studied Relationship Psychotherapy and achieved a Postgraduate qualification (Advanced Diploma), so I can now understand your relationship difficulties and dynamics in a more specialist capacity and on a deeper, more thorough level. I draw upon The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, which includes Attachment Theory, ask me any questions about this if you're curious to know more.

Common reasons couples seek therapy;

  • Communication difficulties - Lost in Translation

  • A Betrayal (sexual or financial for example)

  • Distrust

  • You feel unheard or unseen

  • There's aggressive or passive behaviours affecting your relationship

  • Loss of sexual intimacy

  • The arrival of children has changed your relationship.

There may be other reasons, please reach out for an initial consultation.

How would I help you both?

I've learnt, through my experience of helping couples, that both of you need to be engaged in the work, both want to change and are willing to make effort to learn  and create the change. If not, couples therapy isn't for your relationship, you may want to engage in individual therapy to explore how you're affected within your relationship.

I like to work with couples, from a Cause, Affect and Change lens, creating a more thorough and long lasting change for your relationship.

Cause; I've learnt, through my experience of helping couples over the years, as well as in my couples training, that we unknowingly bring our past experiences into our intimate relationship; what we learn from viewing our parents relationship/s and also how they treated us, including any past intimate relationships as well as experiences within your current relationship. Couples therapy is about creating deeper understanding and making it clearer, helping you understand what's happening in your relationship now.

I will meet with you both individually in separate hour long appointments, at our 2nd meeting to begin an understanding of you in this way.

Affect; As well as understanding you both individually, we will explore from your 1st appointment what brings you both to therapy and what you want to change. This includes how you both feel and behave within your relationship, how you affect each other. As you're both different people, there may be different things, it's important to the therapy we keep these goals in mind.

Change; Our work together brings together understanding causes of your difficulties, how these have affected you and your relationship and I help you create a different relationship, one with different behaviours. This will include practice outside the therapy.

We can talk about this in your 1st appointment and will be focussed on as we travel through the therapy.

Our work together requires regular committed weekly appointments to increase self-awareness and create change

Cost for each 1 hour appointment £110

A free 15 minute Zoom consultation is required for us all to meet prior to committing, reach out to book this here
