Couples Counselling/Couples Therapy/Family Therapy

A couple having fun on a bike ride

I'm really passionate about helping couples as well as Adult Relationships in a Family and I've had the privilege over 10 years of helping many couples from all walks of like, backgrounds, religions, faiths and sexuality. In more recent years, I wanted to gain more knowledge and understanding of couples dynamics because it's a specialism, and very different to individual therapy. So, in 2024 I studied Relationship Psychotherapy and achieved a Postgraduate qualification (Advanced Diploma), so I can now understand your relationship difficulties and dynamics in a more specialist capacity and on a deeper level, so we can understand root causes.

Common reasons couples seek therapy;

  • Communication difficulties

  • Dishonesty - A Betrayal (sexual or financial for example)

  • Distrust

  • You feel unheard or unseen

  • There's aggressive or passive behaviours affecting your relationship

  • Loss of sexual intimacy

  • The arrival of children has changed your relationship.

There may be other reasons, please reach out for an initial consultation.

How would I help you?

I've learnt, through my experience of helping couples and families, that both of you need to be engaged in the work, both want to change or are at least curious, and are willing to make effort to learn  and create the change. If not, couples therapy isn't for your relationship, you may want to engage in individual therapy to explore how you're affected within your relationship.

I like to work with couples or families, from a Cause, Affect and Change lens, creating a more thorough and long lasting change for your relationship not just promising you a quick fix, which isn't possible. Adults are not blank slates, and in my clinical experience, there are usually many reasons to cause relationship difficulties. Experiencing loss, having children, lies and deceit, personal change and growth for example can create conflict, as well as what this can trigger from your pasts too. I really like to help couples who are curious and committed to learning about themselves in this way.

In your 1st appointment, we'll explore in greater detail your reasons for seeking therapy and what you want change and why. We'll also explore what you love about each other or have lost sight of,

In appointment 2, I'll meet with you both individually in separate hour long appointments where I will find out about you as an individual,  how you experience your relationship, your past relationships and childhood.

From appointment 3, I will have a good idea about what's impacted your relationship and I will create a roadmap of how we all get you to where you want to be. At times, some people realise couples therapy isn't for them, or that they want to end their relationship. I can support you both through a separation/divorce if necessary.

Our work together requires regular committed weekly appointments, which is essential to create change
